"Holy Days"

Rev. Hubbell

"See We One Another Clearly? (Homecoming and Water Communion)"

Revs. Manwell and Hubbell with the choir

Again we draw on Harry Belafonte, whose lively calypso song invites us to ask each other, "Do you know who I am? Do I know who you are? See we one another clearly?" We'll be asking ourselves these questions on our spiritual quest this year to deepen our relationships. Whether it comes from some far-off place or the back yard, bring a token of water to share in water communion, as we reflect on experiences which have inspired us, moved us, or surprised us, and deepened our sense of connection.

"Always Beginners"

Rev. Manwell

The religious life is always about the journey; we never achieve perfection, never “arrive.” We’re always beginners, with a “growing edge” to work on. With our Jewish friends, now beginning their new year after rituals of forgiveness, we acknowledge that to move forward we must first forgive ourselves and each other, and let go of all that holds us back.

"Making Love: Living the First Principle"

Rev. Phyllis L. Hubbell with the choir

Our First Principle sounds good, affirming the inherent worth and dignity of all people. But most of us know people or even whole groups of people that challenge that abstract statement – people we dismiss as not worthy of our respect and care.    Our Universalist heritage teaches us that each person has something to give the world, to give us. And our Unitarian heritage insists that each of us can learn to see the unexpected gifts waiting in people we thought we knew.
